quizballs index 1 - quizzes 1-200 (quizballs index 2 - quizzes 201 onwards)

free trivia quiz questions and answers - for pub quizzes, pub games, team games, learning and fun

Here below lists and links for past Quizballs quizzes numbered 1-200, and corrections.

See Quizballs index page 2 for current and recent Quizballs quizzes 201 onwards, and corrections.

See also the separate dedicated quiz website - Quizballs.com - run by Businessballs, launched in October 2011, which offers increasingly more and different free Quizballs quizzes. These quizzes are numbered 1001 onwards. (Businessballs continues to publish its own different, slightly more serious quizzes on this website).

Quizballs are free quiz questions and answers for trivia quizzes, team games, and pub quizzes. Quizballs quizzes are educational and enlightening as well as entertaining and amusing. We also take pride in the quality and reliability of our quizzes. Occasionally we make mistakes, which we correct when we are told.

We design our quizzes to be as robust and clear as possible, so that quiz users and compilers avoid dispute and controversy.

Each of the Quizballs quizzes on this website is numbered and available free on two linked pages:

A similar format exists on the new Quizballs.com website, plus the option to see answers individually. Quizzes on the Quizballs.com website are numbered 1001 onwards.

The Quizballs.com website offers slightly more flexibility in the ways you can see and use the quizzes, and aims to add new quizzes more frequently than here on Businessballs.

Quizzes on the Businessballs website (here) tend to be more serious than the lighter quicker nature of the quizzes on the sister Quizballs.com website.

Corrections and amendments for quizzes numbered 1-200 are listed below.

Corrections for quizzes numbered 201 onwards are on the Quizballs index page 2.

The separate dedicated Quizballs.com website lists corrections for its own quizzes, which are numbered 1001 onwards.

amendments, corrections and updates to quizzes:

We do our best to check our facts but occasionally a typo or other mental error creeps in, or even supposedly reliable sources are not so reliable, and in other instances answers are open to confusion or dispute, in which case I am very grateful to everyone who sends corrections and suggestions. This helps us to ensure that the quizzes are as robust and accurate as possible. Thank you.

See Quizballs index page 2 for corrections to quizzes 201 and beyond.

quizballs 95 - question 26 was corrected to show William III's reign as English King began 1688/9 (rather than mistakenly 1650, which is when he was born - the reign began 1688 or 1689 depending on interpretation of the technicalities) - thanks T Gilmore - 13 Oct 2014.

In the long-standing ongoing likely infinite absence of any clearer alternative/competing attribution, and since Burns wrote much/most of the work himself and certainly produced/refined it all into a published work, and is [therefore] recognized as the writer of the published work, it is entirely reasonable that Burns is regarded as the author/creator of the work - thanks for raising this M Hale - 27 Dec 2012.

quizballs 1 - question 5 was replaced due to complexity of interpreting and explaining the word 'active' in relation to volcanoes. The question and answer were: What is the name of the world's highest active volcano? Cotopaxi (Ecuador). In fact several other volcanoes, notably Ojos del Salado (last erupted AD400-1000) and Llullaillaco (1877) are higher and 'active' in terms of volcano history. Cotopaxi is often cited as the highest active volcano because it seems to be the highest most recently active volcano (1975 and earlier in 1900s) - 2 Oct 2007 - (thanks I Duffy for drawing attention to this.)

(Thanks B Bielstein and T Turner - My first attempted correction was 15 May but I managed even to get wrong the perfectly good correction from B Bielstein and mistakenly insert Jim instead of Jack Swigert, and I thank Tim Turner for pointing this out, in addition to confirming that the other astronaut aside from Jim Lovell was Fred Haise.) - 18 May 2007

quizballs 22 - question 40 - The question 'What type of fruit is a bergamot?' was replaced because it had three different possible answers: pear, citrus or orange. As well as being a pear variety, bergamot arguably more commonly refers the pear-shaped citrus or orange fruit, grown in Italy, a cross between a pear-lemon and Seville orange or grapefruit, used in making Bergamot oil and for flavouring Early Grey tea. quizballs 20 - question 20 - the question was replaced due to the difficulty in providing a correct unequivocal answer to: What causes Lily Tomlin to shrink in the 1981 film The Incredible Shrinking Woman? The answer was incompletely stated in this quiz as 'perfume', but the full correct answer (various lifestyle and household chemicals and additives) is not well-suited to a quiz. 'A New Hope' was edited in California by Marcia Lucas (George Lucas' then wife) who won an Oscar for it. George Lucas and Marcia have since split up, and George has re-edited the film many times, as he has tinkered with the special effects over the years. (Ack Jim, 16 May 2007)

quizballs 1 - question 28, and quizballs 16 - question 23 - These two questions were replaced by completely new questions due to the complexity of interpreting proximity of planets to Earth. (Ack S Edwards for pointing out the anomalies) - 15 Sep 06
